Bequests

You can make a lasting contribution to the world you leave behind by adding Connecticut Voices for Children to your will.  A bequest allows you to continue helping the people you care for and the causes that you believe in.  It also contributes significantly to the long-term financial well-being of a nonprofit, such as Connecticut Voices.  You do not have to be wealthy to make a bequest.  Regardless of size, your gift will have a positive impact.

Sample Bequest Language

1. Specific Bequest – generally the most frequently used bequest, the specific bequest directs a specific amount of money or a specific asset to an individual or organization.

Suggested Language for Specific Bequest: I give, devise, and bequeath $_______ (or X asset) to Connecticut Voices for Children, Inc., (Federal Tax ID #06-1435280), a 501 (c )(3) nonprofit organization located at 33 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT 06510, for its general use and purposes.

2. Percentage Bequest – A percentage bequest directs the bequest designation as a percentage of an estate rather than a specific dollar amount or specific item.

Suggested Language for Percentage Bequest: I give, devise, and bequeath ____% to Connecticut Voices for Children, Inc., (Federal Tax ID #06-1435280), a 501 (c )(3) nonprofit organization located at 33 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT 06510, for its general use and purposes.

3. Residuary Bequest – Residuary Bequests are made when you leave all or part of the residue of your assets after other terms of the Will have been satisfied.  Because residuary bequests are distributed last, donors sometimes feel a level of comfort knowing their wishes for family and loved ones will be provided for first.

Suggested Language for Residuary Bequest: I give, devise, and bequeath the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate consisting of property, both real and personal, wherever situated, which I may own or be entitled to at my death, to Connecticut Voices for Children, Inc., (Federal Tax ID #06-1435280), a 501 (c )(3) nonprofit organization located at 33 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT 06510, for its general use and purposes.
