Poverty, Income, and Health Insurance in Connecticut Cities and Towns
This data summary and analyis by Connecticut Voices summarizes indicators of child and family well-being.
What is included in our summary:
- Regions: 54 CT cities and towns with populations of 20,000 or more, state
- Indicators: estimates of people in poverty, children in poverty, median household income, people uninsured, and children uninsured.
- Change over time: We summarize statistically significant changes in estimates between 2005-2007 and 2008-2010 estimates of poverty and income. (Historical data not available for health insurance coverage in ACS.)
- Caution on local estimates: Because margins of error for town estimates can be wide, caution should be used in making comparisons between estimates or comparisons over time. It is not accurate to report, for instance, that poverty has increased or decreased in a town unless the change in this estimate was statistically significant. These data are based on a rolling sample collected between January 2008 and December 2010. Consequently, these data do not represent a specific point in time and may mask trends within the five year period.
